REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE – Natural Gas Storage and pipelines
Efficient and cost effective storage for large quantities of natural gas is a vital requirement for the gas distribution industry. Without such storage
it is impractical to efficiently operate production facilities to meet uneven customer demands or plan import energy in the form of LNG that take advantage of the economies offered by the latest large LNG
tankers. The following is a list of MCDRS’ staff recent gas storage experience:
- Texas Gulf Coast Storage Project Review:
We investigated availability and utilization of salt domes for natural gas storage. Detailed studies where conducted on selected salt domes for the design, construction, metering, control systems, surface piping, gas treatment, gas compression, and capital cost and operating costs. Attention was given to the type and thickness of the overburden and thickness of the salt in order to determine the maximum allowable working pressure and any limits on the quality of natural gas utilized. The analysis included leaching technologies, brine disposal and environmental requirements.
- US Northeast Storage Project Review:
We investigated availability and utilization of bedded salt deposits and depleted gas reservoirs in the US Northeast for natural gas storage. Scoping included the design, construction, metering,
control systems, surface piping, gas treatment, gas compression, environmental (groundwater and air emissions) and capital cost and operating costs. Comparison of using the bedded salt deposits versus the
depleted gas reservoirs were performed, focusing on the peak deliverability, injection cycle time limits, and cycle life differences.
- US Midwest Storage Conversions:
We have investigated, designed and converted sub-surface LPG storage caverns and brine wells into natural gas storage caverns. Project included the successful refurbishment of 47 salt caverns into gas
storage, creation of 38 new caverns, adding 40 new injection/withdrawal wells, new surface gas treatment facilities, and adding multiple brine disposal wells. Work included geotechnical studies, reservoir
modeling, deliverability modeling, estimating capital and operating costs, and design of well and cavern testing procedures.
- Mozambique Natural Gas Export Pipeline:
Review of the design, engineering and execution of the Mozambique/South Africa Natural Gas Project to support placement of Corporate Loans for the Project. Analyses included investigation of the terms
of the technical, commercial and operating agreements, project execution and operations strategies together with progress reviews during construction.
- Middle East (Confidential Client):
Independent technical analysis of existing offshore natural gas production facilities and pipeline including maintenance records, operating regime and development plans to support bond issue.
- OCP Heavy Oil Pipeline Project
: The OCP Heavy Oil Pipeline in Ecuador was the subject of intense scrutiny and criticism by many environmentalists and non-government organizations. MCDRS staff provided the lead Lender with
independent reviews and opinions of the construction progress, techniques used and the application of plans and procedures to ensure safety of the workers, the environment and local infrastructure.
